Signed Memorandum of Understanding in the energy sector between the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Macedonia and the Ministry of Energy and Mining of the Republic of Kosovo

 The Minister of Economy of the Republic of Macedonia, Fatmir Besimi and the Minister of Energy and Mining of the Republic of Kosovo, Justina Shiroka Pulja, today signed Memorandum of Understanding in the energy sector between the two Ministries.
The signing of this document presents establishment of formal basis for upgrading of the current successful cooperation in the area of energy with the Republic of Kosovo and will be followed by formation of Joint operation team of experts from both Ministries and representatives of their national companies and wherever needed also representatives of other Ministries, with proposals for further steps in the cooperation for implementation of the agreed areas pursuant this MoU.
Minister Besimi after the signing of the MoU emphasized: “The eight Agreements for cooperation signed between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Kosovo present clear signal for the political will of both Governments for mutual cooperation which see their perspective into EU integration. Through the program for the countries of Western Balkan supported from EU, we applied with two projects for development of the interconnection grid – for construction of transmission lines towards the Republic of Albania and towards the Republic of Kosovo – which realization will presents rounding up of the interconnection between the Republic of Macedonia and the neighbours”.
“The energy as area, always brings challenges, therefore for me the signing of this MoU presents enormous pleasure”, stated Minister Justina Shiroka Pulja. “Our current cooperation should set example in the region. Kosovo is young state that works on the development of the infrastructure with special accent on the energy infrastructure. Taking to consideration the fact that Macedonia is in advanced phase with the projects for use of the hydro potential, energy efficiency and harmonization of the legislation with the European legislation, we sincerely hope for assistance, exchange of experience and expert help into direction of realization of our commenced projects, and the future joint projects with purpose of securing the liabilities from the signed agreement of the Energy Community and the stability of the energy system”.
The signing of the MoU followed after the bilateral meeting of the delegations on which from the Kosovo side were present Emilia Redzepi, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mining, Skender Durmisi, Executor of Duty, the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Skopje, Faik Nahi, Superior Advisor for energy, Sarah Redzepi and Ramadan Gagica, Advisors for Energy. The Macedonian side was presented by Katerina Kosteska, State Secretary of the Ministry, Stojan Karajanov, Ambassador of RM in Kosovo, Spetim Nuredini, State Advisor for energy and mineral resources, Violeta Keckarovska, Head of the Sector for energy and Arta Hamzai, Chief of the Cabinet of the Minister. |
