The launch of the project "Towards a Safe and Healthy Working Environment in North Macedonia" represents a significant step in advancing the national policy on occupational safety and health, emphasized today the Minister of Economy and Labor, Besar Durmishi, in his address at the official promotion of the Project.
"Protecting the health and life of workers is a fundamental value and a legal obligation, but above all a moral duty of everyone. With this project, we are starting a new phase in which we will create a modern system, with a clear strategy, digital tools and stronger inspection. By 2028, our goal is for the country to have a new, modern framework for occupational safety and health, aligned with the highest ILO and EU standards. Prevention is the best investment – in people, in companies and in the future of the economy," said Durmishi.
The project aims to reduce the number of injuries and occupational diseases in the workplace by strengthening the legal and regulatory framework, modernizing the labor inspection system, establishing a national information system for occupational safety and health, and improving national capacities for management and service provision in this area.
"The world of employment is changing - rapid digitalization, new forms of employment and economic challenges require a system that anticipates, prevents and protects. The Government of the Republic of North Macedonia has set occupational safety and health as one of the priorities of labor policies. The law alone is not enough - functional institutions, inspections and continuous training are needed," the Minister added.
The project, which will run until October 2028, is being implemented with the support of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and financial assistance from the European Union. Minister Durmishi emphasized that with the joint work of the Government, employers, unions and experts, North Macedonia will create safer and healthier working environments, where safety will be the foundation of economic development.
