The Minister of Economy and Labor, Mr. Besar Durmishi, today addressed the panel "Impact and Addressing the Challenges of Demographic Trends", as part of the event dedicated to demography as a strategic issue for the future of the country.
Minister Durmishi emphasized that demographic trends – such as declining birth rates, youth emigration, and aging population – are economic reality that requires systemic approach and long-term solutions.
"Our response is not declarative, but concrete, proactive and based on real data and needs. Through investments in human capital, active employment measures and support for local economic development, we are building the economy of the future," the Minister said.
As part of the economic policies that directly respond to demographic challenges, the Minister highlighted the Operational Plan for Employment for 2025, worth EUR40 million, which supports over 10.000 citizens with training, internships, self-employment and grants for young entrepreneurs. There is a special focus on the regions that are most demographically threatened.
"Only with strong local economies can we mitigate the effects of migration and keep young people in our communities. It is our obligation to provide equal opportunities for everyone – regardless of where they live," said Durmishi.
The Minister called for joint action and broader social coalition – between institutions, the business sector, academia, and civil society organizations – with the aim of building an economy that will respond to reality, but also change it for the better.
