The Ministry of Economy and Labor today presented the National Strategy for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises 2025–2030, a strategic document that defines the direction for the development, competitiveness and resilience of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Republic of North Macedonia in the coming years.
Small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of the national economy, accounting for around 99 percent of the total number of enterprises and providing a livelihood for almost three-quarters of the workforce. They play a key role in the country's economic growth, innovation and social stability.
At the event, the Minister of Economy and Labor Besar Durmishi emphasized that the Strategy is more than a formal document and that it represents a clear commitment to support for the domestic entrepreneurs:
"Small and medium-sized enterprises are not just part of our economy - they are our economy. Each of their success means a more secure future for a family and a stronger country. With the SME Strategy 2025–2030, we are creating conditions for them to be leaders of change, not their followers," stressed the Minister.
The Strategy envisages measures to simplify regulations, improve access to finance, and strong support for the green and digital transition, with the aim of increasing the competitiveness and export potential of small and medium-sized enterprises.
The Minister emphasized that the document was developed through an inclusive process and is fully harmonized with European Union policies:
"This Strategy is the result of extensive cooperation with the business community and partners and is fully harmonized with the European standards. It directly prepares our economy for integration into the Single European Market," he added.
The Ministry of Economy and Labor will coordinate the implementation of the Strategy in partnership with relevant institutions, chambers of commerce, financial institutions and international partners. Regular monitoring and evaluation mechanisms are also foreseen, in order to ensure transparency and measurable results in the period 2025–2030.
With the adoption of the National Strategy for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises 2025–2030, the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia confirms its commitment to strengthening entrepreneurship, creating new jobs, and building a strong, sustainable and competitive economy.
