Skopje, 25.06.2025

The Ministry of Economy and Labor informs the public that in accordance with the adopted Information on the implementation of measures from Phase 3 of the Action Plan for Preventing the Consequences of Heat Waves on the Health of the Population (2025 - 2030), it is actively coordinating and implementing recommendations for the protection of workers and improving working conditions in the summer period.

In conditions of extreme heat waves, the Ministry calls on all employers in the public and private sectors to implement the following measures:

-Postponement of work activities during the hottest hours of the day, from 11 am to 5 pm, especially for workers exposed to direct heat;

-Establishing opportunities for remote work, flexible or double working hours where feasible;

-Providing appropriate microclimatic conditions in the work premises, with a temperature of up to 25°C, except where the nature of the work process does not allow it;

-Exemption from work obligations of pregnant women and people over 60 years of age, if appropriate working conditions are not provided, with the exception of employees in critical infrastructure (healthcare, police, army, transport, energy, public utility companies).

The Ministry of Economy and Labor will continue to monitor and coordinate activities for the protection of health and safety at work, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and other relevant institutions.

These measures aim to reduce the risks of heat stress and other health consequences for employees, as part of the national response to the challenges of climate change and extreme weather conditions.

The Ministry calls on the public and the business sector to cooperate and be responsible in implementing the recommendations for worker protection and ensuring safe and healthy working conditions.
