The Decision on Special Conditions for the Trade of Certain Goods comes into force tomorrow, which will cover retailers and wholesalers selling school supplies from August 15 to September 15.
- This is a measure known as the "School Basket" which we are implementing for the second year in a row and its goal is to protect the standard of living, especially of citizens who have children who are students. With this decision, the prices of products used by students (notebooks, backpacks, pencils, crayons, markers, calculators, scissors, glue, folders and other basic materials) are returned to the level of June 1 and they are given a discount of at least 10 percent in wholesale trade and at least 15 percent in retail trade - said Deputy Minister Risteski in a statement to the media in Prilep.
Risteski noted that the measure is being implemented for the second year in a row, it yielded good results last year and that he expects similar results this year.
- Last year, with the implementation of this measure, according to our data, we had savings of MKD750 to 2.000 per student, and this year we expect the savings to range from MKD800 to 2.000 per student. We are taking this measure in order to protect the standard of living of citizens and to help them during this period, because these are months with increased costs for preparing for the winter period, where citizens are faced with costs for preparing for winter supplies, heating... - added Risteski.
He reminded retailers of their obligations to ensure timely information to consumers about the retail prices of items by clearly labeling them with the inscriptions "Less costs, more for you", as well as by clearly labeling the old price that was valid on 01.06.2025 and highlighting the new discounted price.
Inspectors from the State Market Inspectorate will be present on the ground to control the implementation of the decision and will act in accordance with their legal competences.
