The Minister of Economy and Labor Besar Durmishi held a press conference today at which he informed about the latest data from the State Statistical Office on inflation in April.
Please find attached the speech of Minister Durmishi:
Distinguished,
We all know that in times of economic crisis, every Denar counts. And every change in the market directly affects the daily lives of our citizens – in the bread we buy, the oil, the sugar, or the hygiene products.
Therefore, as the Ministry of Economy and Labor, we have been committed from day one to protect the living standards of citizens and ensure price stability.
Thanks to the measures taken since the beginning of the year – including the limitation of margins on food and hygiene products – we have concrete results today.
Official data shows that:
-Inflation for April is practically zero compared to March, 0.6% increase;
-Compared to April last year, inflation is 2.6%;
-Food prices are almost unchanged – only 0.3% annual growth, and a decrease of -1.3% compared to December 2024.
These are facts that show that the economy is more stable, and citizens are not faced with unbearable price increases. But we will not stop there.
In cooperation with the State Market Inspectorate, we monitor the dynamics of prices on a daily basis. So far, there has been no significant increase after the end of the measure. But if someone tries to misuse the situation – we will react immediately.
Subsequently, the reaction will be decisive:
-We can expand the list of products with limited prices;
-Introduce margins on all products;
-Or increase existing restrictions.
To summarize, the Ministry of Economy and Labor remains committed to maintaining economic stability and protecting the living standards of citizens. With responsibility, determination and in cooperation with the competent institutions, we will continue to take necessary measures to ensure a fair and stable market for all.
