The Minister of Economy and Labor, Besar Durmishi, met today with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Petra Drexler.
At the meeting, Minister Durmishi emphasized that Germany is the largest trade partner of North Macedonia, which has a share of about 24% in the total trade of our country and about 40% in the total trade with EU countries.
The trade exchange shows continuous growth, and this is mostly due to significant German investments, which are over 10 and operate in the zones. The cooperation and closeness between the two economies is also manifested through the numerous German investments in the country.
Minister Durmishi emphasized that he is pleased with the data that in 10 years, the total investments from Germany in North Macedonia amount to EUR675 million, and in 2023 alone, EUR108 million were invested by German companies in our country.
"For us, as the Ministry of Economy and Labor, which responsibility is the working conditions of foreign investors, it is of great importance to work on improving the business climate, all in order to have more investments that will mean more employment and greater economic growth. The more German companies invest in North Macedonia, the more exports grow," Minister Durmishi said at the meeting with German Ambassador Drexler.
At the meeting, it was emphasized that Germany is a partner and supporter of North Macedonia on the way to full membership in the EU, through support in the reforms and development process, and the Berlin process as intergovernmental initiative for cooperation in the direction of accelerating the European integration process is a clear indicator of the support that we receive from Germany.
Minister Durmishi expressed hope that the trend of cooperation that we have so far with Germany will continue and intensify in all areas, with the ultimate goal of speeding up the EU accession process of North Macedonia.
